That first year flew by like a single day – honestly, more like a single hour. We were designing routes, building the website from scratch, setting up ads, and working around the clock as guides, accountants, marketers, and photographers. We managed to keep up with absolutely everything, except sleep.
From a business standpoint, that first year was a hit. By the winter of 2018, we were firing on all cylinders, gearing up for the new season.
Looking back now, we truly believe that what happened next actually saved us. If Covid hadn’t slammed the brakes on our business, another season with that kind of grueling workload would have wrecked our health.
I remember our last tour right before the pandemic like it was yesterday.
Lockdowns were already popping up somewhere in the world, while we were leading a group of 30 students through the winter mountains of Borjomi, joking that if they got stuck here, they could all just crash at our apartment. Flights were grounded literally the day after the guests flew out. That was the moment I realized my joke had come dangerously close to reality.
On one hand, the pandemic completely shattered our plans. But on the other, it handed us an unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime gift. I highly doubt I will ever get to explore the high-altitude trails of Svaneti and the wider Caucasus with my friends for an entire summer again, feeling lucky if we crossed paths with even one person a day.
That’s why we truly believe a well-crafted self-guided tour is like a fine wine. You can taste every single note and the hint of sweetness, the bright grapes acidity, and the bold, warming kick of the alcohol. Every ingredient and every condition is balanced to perfection, serving just one ultimate purpose: to leave you with a beautiful afterthought. This is our philosophy what helped to shape our signature multi-day itineraries across Svaneti, Kazbegi, and Tusheti.
Fast forward to today, and we are proud to be the leading local operator for self-guided walking tours in Georgia. Not too long ago, we added Portugal to our map and we are already planning to expand into other countries.
We have no idea what the future holds, but we are ready to embrace it. We see this entire journey as a long, demanding hike – the kind that requires careful planning and training, but where life will still throw its own plot twists at you anyway.
And that is exactly how we view our product. Every single kilometer of our routes – from the classic Mestia to Ushguli trek to remote highland trails, has been personally walked by us. We’ve slept in the exact same spots and eaten the exact same meals where you will, and we’ve stared in awe at the very same views. We planned it all out and traced it on the map for you – every single thing we would die to see just one more time, backed by offline GPS navigation apps, detailed route notes, and pre-booked guesthouse stays.
But at the end of the day, this will be your adventure. It will come with your weather, your encounters, your animals, your triumphs, and your very personal experience. Our job is to give you the map and hold space for you. Your job is to live through this adventure intensely, so you can tell stories about it for decades to come. “Last week was my first experience with Camp Caucasus and first experience with mountain camping in general. In this case the organizers showed a high level of professionality organizing these kind of camps. 1) organizational part was up to point; 2) organizers communicated with us properly before the camp to inform what to bring with us/what not to bring/what to expect/ what we will eat etc. in all aspects so I felt prepared; 3)in mountains we can never predict the weather precisely and I liked that organizers were open minded to change something in our schedule so we don’t miss the most beautiful sights. 4) One thing I did not prepare myself was that the hiking in mountains was actually hard for me ( and I’m trained :), so be prepared physically. Another thing I did not prepare myself was generosity of Georgian people and a LOT of tasty food there. 🙃”
