Tusheti National Park is one of the most stunning and remote protected areas in the Eastern Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. It’s the starting point of the legendary Omalo to Shatili trek, one of the best multi-day hikes in Georgia, crossing the Atsunta Pass into Khevsureti. It is located in the structural basin of Tusheti, Akhmeta Municipality, Kakheti Region, about 900 – 4800 meters above the sea level, and its area is 83007 hectares!
Historically, it was founded in 2003. Totally, Tusheti National Park preserves alpine meadows, glaciers, summits, river sources, rare and endangered species of animals and endemic relict plants. Also, there is an unique pine forest and forest-forming species – birch, highland oak, apricot and salix caprea, which is amazing for nature caring.

Tusheti is distinguished also by its beautiful summits, such as Tebulo (4492 m), Diklo (4285 m) and Borbalo (3294 m), which are very popular among tourists and all types of travelers. You get fantastic panoramic views when reaching the top of the mountain!
Tusheti State Reserve and National Park areas are managed by the Tusheti Protected Areas Administration, which is located in Akhmeta Municipality, the village of Kvemo Alvani, and also the Summer Administration is located in Tusheti, Omalo village. An administrative building or visitor center, which takes care of all protected areas and also integrates hotel rooms for visitors, has interpretive and information boards. Visitors can plan different kinds of tours popular through Georgia trails to visit the sights of Tusheti and learn everything they need.

Nowadays, Tusheti National Park includes 11 marked hiking trails of varying difficulty, including the Omalo to Shatili trekking route, which crosses high alpine passes and connects the historic regions of Tusheti and Khevsureti. This trek is one of the most rewarding long-distance hikes in the Caucasus. In an area with unique historical-cultural and natural landscapes, visitors can select many tours desirable especially for them, such as Georgia hiking, cycling, horse riding, cultural, bird and wild goat observation tours. Pine flowering is also noteworthy, because it is the greatest potential for Tusheti in terms of medical tourism.

Many things about Tushetian culture are special. Sheep-farming has always been their main activity and still is. Tush sheep, Tush horse, shepherd, Tush cheese, Tush rug, Tush felt, Tush hat, and others form the common cultural-aesthetic space of Tusheti. Sheep wool processing and weaving play an important role in the life of a Tushietian woman, who are true masters of their craft. Also, there is an option of competitions in archery and horse riding – those activities are often held on local holidays, where visitors have the opportunity to actively engage and participate, to get the best experience of their travel.
